# Switching from PRISM Desktop

Windows

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="English" %}
**PRISM Live Studio Beta is here, adding PRISM features to the same layout and workflow as OBS.**

See how the location and usage of PRISM features differ from the previous version, and check what you need to set up again.

{% hint style="info" %}
For the basic flow from installation to going live in the Beta, see [**Getting Started with PRISM Desktop Beta**](https://guide.prismlive.com/desktop-beta/guides/getting-started-with-prism-desktop-beta#english).
{% endhint %}

## Previous version vs. Beta <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-previousversionvs.beta" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-previousversionvs.beta"></a>

<figure><img src="https://1019928184-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlISC5rfB4Hnmbsjf8phq%2Fuploads%2FgVr79q8Z9GGJgrLJZdlO%2F%E1%84%89%E1%85%B3%E1%84%8B%E1%85%B1%E1%84%8E%E1%85%B5%E1%86%BC%20%E1%84%80%E1%85%A1%E1%84%8B%E1%85%B5%E1%84%83%E1%85%B3%202.png?alt=media&amp;token=3f60488d-940e-4b87-b901-a2e56ed83da4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Both versions offer the same PRISM core features, including multistreaming, unified chat, scene templates, widgets, and mobile app connection. The biggest difference is the layout and the way you use them.

* **Previous version:** <mark style="background-color:red;">The layout and streaming workflow are simple</mark>, so you can start streaming right away without complex setup. It is easy to use even without any OBS experience.
* **Beta:** <mark style="background-color:red;">Has the same layout and workflow as OBS</mark>, so anyone who has used OBS will feel right at home. You can install and use a wide range of OBS plugins, and PRISM Lens effects like face retouch can be applied directly as filters without the separate Lens app. Streaming is lighter, and you get new OBS features and improvements sooner.

The two cannot be used together. Installing the Beta removes the previous version, and you can reinstall the previous version from the PRISM website.

## What stays and what changes after installation <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-whatstaysandwhatchangesafterinstallation" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-whatstaysandwhatchangesafterinstallation"></a>

Apart from a few unsupported sources, most scenes, sources and settings are carried over. Check the table below for items that need a new login or new setup, and for features that are coming soon or not supported in the Beta.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Installing the Beta removes the previous version. Settings or files lost during installation may be hard to recover, so check your scene collections and settings before installing and keep a separate copy of important files.
{% endhint %}

## Changed menus and feature locations <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-changedmenusandfeaturelocations" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-changedmenusandfeaturelocations"></a>

Check where the features from the previous version are located in the Beta and how to use them.

Apart from a few sources, most features are still available, but their location and usage have changed.

<table data-search="false"><thead><tr><th width="200.890625">Previous verison</th><th width="203.8359375">Beta</th><th>How to use</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Channel dashboard (channel list at the top)</strong></td><td><strong>PRISM Streaming dock</strong></td><td>Click the PRISM Streaming icon in the right sidebar to connect channels and turn them on or off.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Live info</strong></td><td><strong>Manage Broadcast</strong></td><td>Click Manage Broadcast in the Controls area, then enter the title, category and visibility in each platform tab.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Output settings guide by platform</strong></td><td><strong>Manage Broadcast > Output Settings Guide</strong></td><td>Open Output Settings Guide at the top right of the Manage Broadcast window and click Apply now.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Scene and source panel</strong></td><td><strong>Scenes and Sources docks</strong></td><td>Select a scene in Scenes, then add sources with the + button in Sources and arrange their order.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Add PRISM source</strong></td><td><strong>Add Source > PRISM Sources</strong></td><td>Click the + button in Sources, choose a source from the PRISM Sources list and click Create New Source.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>PRISM source settings popup</strong></td><td><strong>Right sidebar or source window</strong></td><td>Double-click the source in Sources, or click the feature's icon in the right sidebar.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Source effect settings</strong></td><td><strong>Filters</strong></td><td>Right-click the source in Sources and select Filters.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>PRISM Lens app connection</strong></td><td><strong>Lens</strong> <strong>filter</strong></td><td>Select a camera source, then click the Lens icon in the right sidebar to apply it as a filter. ## Changes to the Lens connection <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-changestothelensconnection" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-changestothelensconnection"></a>

Lens is the feature whose usage has changed the most from the previous version.

Previously you launched the PRISM Lens app and connected it as a camera device to apply effects. In the Beta, you apply a Lens filter directly to a camera source without the Lens app.

<table><thead><tr><th width="184.55859375">Categroy</th><th>Previous version</th><th>Beta</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Connection</strong></td><td>Launch the PRISM Lens app → select the Lens app as the camera device</td><td>Select a camera source → apply a Lens filter</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Where effects are set</strong></td><td>Lens app</td><td>Lens menu in the right sidebar, or the source filters</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Mobile camera</strong></td><td>Connected through the Lens app</td><td>Add a Mobile source and connect with a QR code</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Existing Lens settings</strong></td><td>-</td><td>Not compatible. Set the effects up again.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### **Applying a Lens filter in the Beta**

<figure><img src="https://1019928184-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlISC5rfB4Hnmbsjf8phq%2Fuploads%2FNdudBzw6gNC92WrwGDhJ%2F%E1%84%85%E1%85%A6%E1%86%AB%E1%84%8C%E1%85%B3%202.png?alt=media&amp;token=78f71a89-cb7b-4a65-b958-9683c07835da" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**In Sources, select the camera source you want to apply Lens effects to.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Click the Lens menu in the right sidebar.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**In the Lens window, choose the effects you want and fine-tune them. The settings are saved as a filter on that camera source.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

* The PRISM Lens app remains on your PC, but the Beta does not detect it as a camera device. Use the Lens filter in the Beta instead.

## Post-installation checklist <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-post-installationchecklist" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-post-installationchecklist"></a>

After installation, check the following items in order.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Scene collections and profiles**\
make sure your existing items appear and the correct profile is selected.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**OBS plugins**\
reinstall the plugins you were using first. Without them, the sources and filters that depend on them may look missing.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Scenes and sources**\
check in the Preview that no sources are missing and that visibility, position and size are correct.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Lens filter**\
add a Lens filter to the camera sources you use and set the effects up again.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Channels and chat**\
check the connected channels and log in again to the platform accounts you need.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Broadcast info and output settings**\
check the title, category and visibility in Broadcast Settings, and review the resolution, FPS and bitrate.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Dual Output**\
if you use it, set the horizontal or vertical output for each channel and check the source layout on the vertical canvas.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Test stream**\
use a recording or a private stream to check video, audio and channel connections.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## 기존 버전과 베타 버전 비교 <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop"></a>

<figure><img src="https://1019928184-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlISC5rfB4Hnmbsjf8phq%2Fuploads%2FrfXrytmVbMZeTYaHUGip%2F%E1%84%89%E1%85%B3%E1%84%8B%E1%85%B1%E1%84%8E%E1%85%B5%E1%86%BC%20%E1%84%80%E1%85%A1%E1%84%8B%E1%85%B5%E1%84%83%E1%85%B3.png?alt=media&amp;token=16512efc-e945-4195-a30f-ffe0c0f3dbb3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Lens 연결 방식 변경 <a href="#id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-lens" id="id-pc-switchingfromprismdesktop-lens"></a>

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guide.prismlive.com/desktop-beta/guides/getting-started-with-prism-desktop-beta/switching-from-prism-desktop.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
